To our Via Media friends - It is time now to think seriously about nominating yourself or someone for a leadership position in the Diocese. Our Diocesan convention is swiftly approaching. And, there are several positions open on various committees. Many of us were surprised and maybe even hurt or angry by the recent article in the Southern Cross regarding the AAC meeting in Bradenton. Our first response could easily be to write back with a similar attack. But, let's recall why Via Media was formed in the first place: To maintain a centrist place in the Diocese and to stay in the Episcopal Church. We have worked hard these last two years to maintain the stance that regardless of whether or not we agree with others in our community, we can still pray and worship together as Christians. So angry words are not the appropriate response, but action is. We can step up to the plate now and send the message that we continue to care about the Diocese of Southwest Florida and we are ready to take leadership positions to keep us moving in a healthy, positive direction. And this also means supporting our membership in the Episcopal Church! Now is the time to think about action. The deadline for nominations is September 1. If you are considering running, get your nomination form into the Diocese NOW. Check out the Diocesan website for nomination information. The positions open for nominees include: 1. Diocesan Council At Large seats - 2 lay (1 man and 1 woman), for a term of 2 years 2. Diocesan Review Committee - 1 presbyter and 1 lay, for a term of 3 years 3.
